History

Chamucos began in 1992 as a collaboration between Oscar-nominated filmmaker Antonio Urrutia, glass artist César Hernández, whose factory produces the brand's hand-blown bottles, and American importer Mark Howard. The name traces to tales of a shadowy devil-like figure repeatedly glimpsed in the barrel cellar. For years the house made only a Los Altos reposado, adding a blanco in 2009, an añejo in 2010, and extra añejo and Diablo Blanco expressions in 2018.
